Horchata Day
Horchata Day in Alboraya is a highly relevant tourist event organized by the Alboraya Town Hall in collaboration with the Guild of Artisan Horchata Makers of Alboraya and the Alboraya Horchata Artisans Product Club.
This event is the most representative celebration of the most internationally recognized Valencian drink, highlighting this iconic product of the Valencian Community: tigernut horchata. Moreover, Horchata Day reinforces Alboraya’s identity as the birthplace of horchata and a gastronomic tourist destination, helping preserve its horchata-making tradition.
It takes place every year in July, usually on the first or second Wednesday of the month, and brings together locals and visitors to enjoy artisan horchata and traditional fartons. The event also includes free tourist experiences for national visitors to learn about the horchata-making process and the cultivation of tigernuts.
Horchata in Alboraya tastes like much more
Enjoying horchata at its origin allows you to savor its essence and influence. That’s the premise behind Horchata Day in Alboraya: the experience is amplified when this symbol of Valencian gastronomy is consumed in its original setting.
Horchata, fartons, and experiences
The usual activities at this event range from tastings to contests, as well as guided tours and workshops organized by the Alboraya Horchata Artisans Product Club, immersing participants in the production of this artisanal product.
The positive impact of two connected worlds
Without Alboraya, there would be no horchata—and without horchata, Alboraya’s cultural identity and landscape wouldn’t be what they are today. The event highlights the positive impact that horchata production has on both the environment and society.
Traditional farming techniques, responsible water use, and the fact that horchata is a vegan beverage all speak to a product that respects its natural surroundings.
Its enjoyment throughout the year—and especially on this day, at the heart of its origin—celebrates the purest form of local consumption.
The event also honors horchata’s positive impact on a society that wouldn’t have evolved as we know it: horchata production energizes the local economy, from working the land to artisanal production, distribution, and final consumption.
If you'd like, I can help you turn this into a flyer, a press release, or even a post for international tourists. Just say the word!
